Life as we know it? - Jake K.

Alright. Here's a question: What is suppose to come first in our life? Well, if we were a Christ followers then we would say, "God and Jesus of course!" If that were the case, we should be overflowing with the Holy Spirit, and want to go out into the nation to preach the good word. It shouldn't matter if we want to or not. Jesus says in Mark 16:15 to go and preach to ever creation, not to sit at home and play Xbox.

What I am getting at is that from our short survey with BU students, we have hit a shocking discovery. We aren't doing our jobs correctly! OK... not a HUGE discovery, but it should want to motivate us to do great work for God. For me this project has been God's way to smack me in the face, because I'm not putting my all into my God and what He stands for. We all need to put down our "Xbox" (distractions) and bring God's word to those who need it.

Ruth Graham has the idea when she said this at the recent conference: "This was a community where the churches would work together, where the college would serve as a gathering place for many different denominations, and many different people, and that's what we're trying to do," Graham said. "We're trying to reach as many people as we can with the message that we have."

In this community we as a college and church need to step it up, and work together on more events that involve the community. Such things like the Andrew's Good News party, and the past Ruth Graham Conference are good examples. However, it seems like it's not enough! And that's great, because it leaves more room for improvement! But the truth of this whole entire project comes down to this: We will never be KNOWN BY OUR LOVE, unless we take advantage of Mark 16:15.

What We Asked

Here are the five questions that we asked. Grace was Responsible for writing the questions down on paper.

1. What does an ideal Christian look like to you?

2. Are there people in your life that you would describe as Christians?

3. How do you think a Christian Act?

4. Have you seen the church positively impacting your community?
If yes,
How?

If no,
Do you have any ideas on how the church could impact the community?

Adventure To BU

We recently went over to Binghamton university to work on our group project. While we were there we conducted a survey with a variety of different students there. We asked a series of 5 questions that all dealt with how people viewed Christians and Christianity in general and the results were very interesting. Almost everyone we talked to said that to them being a Christian just meant being a good person and doing the right thing, however they didn't seem to have the concept that that is only a part of it.It was very interesting because they were very open to helping us out with our survey, however, once they found out it was about Christianity some of them seemed to shy away a little (it's not exactly the most popular subject, especially among college students). This is a crazy world that we live in and it was definitely an eye opener to see the way that people view both Christianity and Christians overall.

A Rude Awakening

With our desire to get involved in our culture, we interviewed these students via video camera. It was quite the interview. I never would have guessed that these people in my own generation would not know a thing about Christianity. They seemed to know a little bit about how a Christian should act, but they really did know anything else.

It is amazing to see that they knew almost nothing of the church getting involved in the community either on campus, or even in their personal lives. All I keep hearing from organizations at Davis and even at Evangelical Free Church of Vestal is that they are truly reaching BU. If they were truly reaching BU, the one guy that we interviewed who knew almost nothing would have at least seen some influence of the church on BU.

The application of this is that we need to reach this vast mission field. There are so many unsaved people at BU. What are we going to do? How long are we really willing to wait to make an impact as church members, or even BU students? We need to get out there and give the gospel to this harvest of unbelief a mile down the road.
